Red Mist Leisure goes green for Christmas 2018

Award-winning pubs and inns company, Red Mist Leisure, has partnered with the leading supplier of table top concepts, Duni, to make Christmas 2018 its most sustainable and environmentally friendly yet.

The operator has purchased Duni’s ‘Spirit of Christmas’ crackers, a new range of sustainably created crackers which are 100% plastic-free and recyclable once used - made using FSC® certified paper based materials. The crackers offer hospitality businesses an innovative, sustainably-designed alternative to typical Christmas crackers, but with even more feel-good factor.

Operating across Surrey and Hampshire with a collection of 10 pubs and inns, Red Mist Leisure is dedicated to using the very best fresh, local and seasonal ingredients and providing a first class, warm and welcoming village pub experience.

Julian Clarke, Director at Red Mist Leisure, commented: “We strive to deliver an authentic, genuine Christmas pub experience for our customers, and each year are looking for new ways to ensure they enjoy their Christmas with us more than ever before. Crackers are a staple part of the Christmas dining experience, yet do create a lot of waste, so when Duni told us about the new crackers we were impressed that we could hold on to the traditions that we treasure, yet ensure we meet our sustainability ambitions. We’re really happy to say that the ‘Spirit of Christmas’ crackers will be decorating our tables throughout the festive period.”

Duni’s ‘Spirit of Christmas’ crackers are part of its existing and award-winning ecoecho® range. As well as leading the way in helping businesses reduce their use of unnecessary plastic during the busy festive period, at least seven per cent from the sale of every box of crackers will go to charity Shelter to help provide vital support to thousands of people struggling with bad housing or homelessness.

Made from 100% plastic-free, recyclable once used materials that are traceable through to source, the new range not only supports the eco-movement but also addresses social responsibility challenges, whilst still delivering the festive feel good factor diners look for at Christmas time.

Gareth Brown, Market Development Manager at Duni, commented: “The ‘Spirit of Christmas’ crackers were a bold move for Duni, yet have been a resounding success. We’re delighted to be able to offer our customers an alternative to traditional crackers and we know that the team at Red Mist Leisure were pleased to have a sustainably-designed option on the table, knowing their end-customers will appreciate not only the plastic-free crackers, but also the unique charitable donation that’s been made too.”

The new range has been introduced to complement Duni’s existing range of ecoecho® sustainably designed tableware, ensuring that hotels, restaurants, pubs and caterers can create cohesive Christmas table concepts that have been designed with the environment in mind.
