The path to net zero throughout the value chain

The ultimate climate goal for Duni Group is to achieve net zero emissions throughout the value chain.

“In 2022, we started reporting our scope 1 and 2 impact on a quarterly basis. In addition, work began on setting up the methodologica framework for collecting data and calculating the indirect emissions – scope 3 – which is necessary to set up Science Based Targets,” explains Kairit Kuusik, Climate Specialist, who was appointed in 2022.

Working with Science Based Targets is extremely important in Duni Group’s efforts to be the industry’s sustainability leader. It also future proof the company against new rules and increases credibility and transparency, both internally and externally.

“The Scope 3 mapping process has given us a much deeper insight into how our waste, the materials we use, transportation and other value chain activities all affect our full greenhouse gas inventory,” says Kairit.

Scope 3 comprises 15 different categories. An initial screening identified five main categories: purchased goods and services, upstream and downstream transport and distribution, waste generation and end-of-life treatment of sold products.

“These are our prioritized categories, but we include most of them in our analysis to create a baseline for future decisions,” says Kairit.
